At Strathcona, we support each individual girl to develop her own voice and identity, as well as health, mind and spirit. Learning is the heartbeat of our culture and throughout the history of the School each student has been instilled with the self-belief and resilience to embrace new opportunities and the confidence to pursue their passions so they make their way bravely, faithfully and happily through life.
Strathcona offers a limited number of Academic, Music and Special Scholarships on an annual basis. Scholarships recognise achievement, enable success and assume a commitment to the School.
Before making an application for a scholarship, please take the time to read all the information below outlining the types of scholarships on offer, the process of applying for a scholarship and the terms and conditions for successful candidates. We also encourage you to attend one of our upcoming School Tours prior to submitting an application.
Applications for 2022
Scholarships are now open!
Academic Scholarships may be offered to a select number of girls on the basis of their academic results after an academic examination (with independent provider EduTest). Academic Scholarships carry partial remission of tuition fees and are conditional upon consistent academic progress, full participation in the co-curricular life of Strathcona and the active modelling of Strathcona values.
Our 2022 Academic and Music Scholarship Applications are now open and the Principal of Strathcona, Mrs Marise McConaghy, invites applications from prospective students for the following years of entry in 2022:
- Year 3 in 2020 may apply for Year 5, 2022 Scholarships
- Year 4 in 2020 may apply for Year 6, 2022 Scholarships
- Year 5 in 2020 may apply for Year 7, 2022 Scholarships
- Year 6 in 2020 may apply for Year 8, 2022 Scholarships
- Year 7 in 2020 may apply for Year 9, 2022 Scholarships
To apply for an Academic Scholarship, candidates must first submit an Application for Academic Scholarship form with Edutest.
Candidates are also asked to submit a Scholarship Portfolio to our Registrar (via email or post) that includes copies of the following documents:
- A letter from the student to our Principal outlining why they would like to attend Strathcona. Preferably, this letter is to be handwritten and in the student’s own words.
- The student’s Birth Certificate. Please note that where the student has been born overseas, please also provide a copy of the student’s Australian Passport, Australian Citizenship Certificate or Permanent Resident Visa.
- The student’s two most recent school reports
- The student’s most recent NAPLAN summary
- Music Scholarship Applicants Only: Documents supporting the student’s level of achievement pertaining to their instrument(s) of choice
- Please do not include any original documents or display folders. Due to the bulk of submissions received, we will regretfully be unable to return these to you.
All scholarship applications and supporting documents must be forwarded to the attention of:

Academic Testing Day will occur on Saturday 24 October 2020 at Strathcona. Applications close on Friday 16 October 2020.

An Instrumental Music Scholarship may be offered to candidates with the potential to make an outstanding contribution to the musical life at Strathcona. Low brass, low woodwind and string instrumentalists are particularly encouraged to audition. Scholarships may be awarded to girls based on their performance auditions, academic results and an interview with the Principal. Music Scholarships carry partial remission of tuition fees and are conditional upon consistent academic progress, full participation in the co-curricular life of Strathcona and the active modelling of Strathcona values.
To apply for a Music Scholarship, candidates must first submit an Application for Music Scholarship form with Strathcona.
We also ask that all Music Scholarship candidates apply and participate in the Academic Scholarship process, outlined above. Please follow the instructions to apply for the Academic Scholarship process, including submitting an Application for Academic Scholarship with EduTest and submitting a Scholarship Portfolio to our Registrar.
Academic Testing Day will occur on Saturday 24 October 2020 at Strathcona and auditions will take place on or around this date (to be confirmed). Applications close on Friday 16 October 2020.

The Beth MacLaren Smallwood Scholarship was established by a former student of Strathcona, the late Mrs Beth Smallwood (nee MacLaren). The recipient will be a girl with significant hearing impairment who would benefit from an education at Strathcona. The recipient of the Scholarship will be determined by interview and, dependent on financial circumstances, will be valued at up to 80% of the tuition fees in any one year. The Scholarship shall be available to each scholar for the period of her enrolment, subject to satisfactory conduct and progress.
Applications for the Beth MacLaren Smallwood Scholarship may be submitted at any time of year. Notification of scholarship may be provided in the year preceding entry.
To apply for an Academic Scholarship, candidates must first complete and submit the Beth McLaren Smallwood Scholarship Application form and an Application for Enrolment form.
Candidates are also asked to submit a Scholarship Portfolio to our Registrar (via email or post) that includes copies of the following documents:
- A letter from the student to our Principal outlining why they would like to attend Strathcona. Preferably, this letter is to be handwritten and in the student’s own words.
- The student’s Birth Certificate. Please note that where the student has been born overseas, please also provide a copy of the student’s Australian Passport, Australian Citizenship Certificate or Permanent Resident Visa.
- The student’s two most recent school reports

- An outline of the nature and extent of the hearing impairment, including supporting audiology / medical reports.
- Please do not include any original documents or display folders. Due to the bulk of submissions received, we will regretfully be unable to return these to you.
