Periodic tables, chemical equations and scientific experiments might sound like the worst homework imaginable.

But to Tamsyn Lovass, spending her summer holidays doing just this was a dream come true.

The Year 12 student at Strathcona Baptist Girls Grammar in Canterbury was selected to participate in the Australian Chemistry Olympiad Summer School at the Australian National University in Canberra.

Tamsyn was one of 24 students chosen for the intensive course, which covered first year university science curriculum in just two weeks.

“Studying university level chemistry isn’t everyone’s idea of summer fun, but as nerdy and cheesy as it sounds, I couldn’t think of anything better,” she said.

With a long list of academic achievements under her belt, her latest one will be as Strathcona’s STEM captain for 2019.
